Exchange Program with Indonesia

The Institute of Ethnology, University of Heidelberg, has a longstanding official cooperation with the Department of Anthropology/Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
This program facilitates a recognized one-semester student exchange and joint research projects between students from both participating universities. In addition, there is an exchange agreement for visiting lectureships, field research at both institutes.
Our long-standing local partner, the Wisma Bahasa language institute, offers our (exchange) students not only formal academic support, but also the language immersion program (language for the field) and internships/surveys/research that promote listening comprehension in Bahasa Indonesia.
In preparation for a stay in Indonesia, the Institute of Ethnology offers two semesters of Bahasa Indonesia language courses (up to the Level A prerequisite to enroll in any Indonesian University). Besides Indonesian language training, seminars are provided on Indonesians issues to enable students to gain necessary prior knowledge before their departure.
